What is Darjeeling Tea?
Fall in love with this rare Darjeeling Oolong tea. Most Darjeelings originate in China or Taiwan, but this oolong is grown exclusively in the Himalayan region of Darjeeling, India. Our Darjeeling Oolong is grown, hand-picked, and produced in low volume, known as the "champagne of teas".
What does Darjeeling Oolong tea taste like?
Our Darjeeling Oolong has dried muscat grape and apricot pit aromas with a tangy dried fruit flavor and deep floral notes. Darjeeling Oolong tea leaves are known for their muscatel flavor or "musky spiciness". This unique flavor develops in the second flush which begins by the end of October, once the rainy monsoon season has ended. The temperatures begin to drop reducing the output of the Darjeeling tea bush as it prepares for hibernation.
Is Darjeeling Oolong a black tea?
Historically, Darjeeling only produced black tea. As tea consumption grew around the world, Darjeeling saw the opportunity and started producing green, white, and oolongs as well.
Oolong teas combine the qualities of dark and green teas, providing several health benefits. Green teas are not allowed to oxidize much in processing whereas black teas are more heavily oxidized, turning the tea leaf black. Because Oolong teas are allowed to partially oxidize, they fall in between green and black tea.
Darjeeling Oolong tea benefits
Darjeeling Oolong tea contains several essential vitamins and minerals, as well as healthy antioxidants that may help improve heart health. It also contains the amino acid theanine, which creates the tea's relaxing effect. Some studies show that drinking oolong tea can help reduce blood sugar and therefore reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Does Oolong tea have caffeine?
Black, green, and oolong teas all come from the Camellia sinensis plant and contain varying levels of caffeine. The resulting flavor of each is dependent on how the leaves are processed.
