Green Rooibos Tea Benefits
Green tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, but Rooibos tea comes from the Rooibos bush native to South Africa. Green Rooibos is unoxidized leaving it rich in antioxidants similar to green tea. However, unlike green tea, this rooibos tea is completely caffeine-free.
Green Rooibos vs Red Rooibos
Green Rooibos and Red Rooibos differ mainly in their processing methods. Green Rooibos is unoxidized, so it does not undergo fermentation, which allows it to retain its green color and higher antioxidant levels, similar to green tea.
Also known as Red Bush tea, Red Rooibos undergoes oxidation. This results in the leaves turning a reddish-brown color. The oxidation also creates a slightly different flavor profile. While Red Rooibos contains some natural levels of caffeine, the jade-colored Rooibos is caffeine-free.
