Similar to Teavana Chai Tea

As a popular Teavana chai tea alternative, our Maharaja Chai Oolong is a cinnamon lover's dream come true! The smooth flavor of the oolong tea combined with an alluring chai spice blend of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, chicory, and cocoa nibs create a savory and spicy cup. We improved on Teavana's blend of Maharaja Chai by adding a bit of Masala spices for a more robust chai blend. Try adding a little splash of milk to accent the spicy-sweet richness!

Feeling adventurous? Blend Maharaja Oolong with our Samurai Chai Maté for a truly delicious cup.

Experience a mellow blend of spicy, sweet, and fruity. The cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and cardamom in this Maharaja Chai blend with the sweetness of pineapple, papaya, orange, and lemongrass in the Samurai Chai Mate creating a deliciously exotic cup. Each of these teas is popular on its own, but together the rich spices create an intoxicating taste of India. This was a very popular Teavana blend.

Does Maharaja Chai Oolong Have Caffeine?

Oolong tea has a more diverse flavor, body, and complexity than many other teas. The level of caffeine in this oolong tea blend falls between the caffeine found in black tea and green tea, putting it in the higher range of caffeinated teas.

A Flavorful, Aromatic, and Complex Tea (Paired with Samurai Mate Chai)

This review is primarily over a combination of two teas: Maharaja Oolong + Samurai Mate Chai (both great on their own too!)

This tea has a strong but balanced and comprehensive flavor profile. It's rich and almost "earthy," but very aromatic with fruity undertones as well. The cacao nibs offer a pleasant but very subtle sweetness; adding milk or a sweetener to this tea is unnecessary, and if anything, it dilutes the flavor. The peppercorns give it a nice tingly aftertaste. I am more of a coffee drinker, however this tea is my favorite of all time thus far; everyone I've given this tea combination has loved it. In fact, my grandmother who has drank black tea daily for 80+ years ended up liking this tea more than her usual blend (Earl grey with dried rosebuds). This tea is well worth the price. Nothing that comes in a teabag comes close to this.

The bag it comes in recommends 200F water temperature for oolong tea, however this oolong is more on the oxidized side, placing it closer to a black tea than a green tea. I could not notice a difference in flavor when using boiling (212F) water versus 200F water. Steep at least for 5 minutes for best results. The perfect formula for me has been putting a heaping teaspoon of this oolong tea as well as the Samurai Mate Chai (in equal parts) in a refillable Keurig k-cup, putting the filter cup in a mug, and filling the mug with boiling water. By the time the water cools down enough to safely drink, the tea is perfectly steeped.

I would recommend using a very tight filter to steep this tea. Some of the "crumbs" and granules that separate from the tea are very tiny and easily pass through conventional mesh filters. The "kick" from swallowing little bits of peppercorn dust can be a little jarring. That's the only complaint--if you can even call that a complaint--with this tea.

You will not be disappointed with this tea. I've yet to find a single person that doesn't end up liking this tea, even people who "don't like tea" (the garbage "tea" they tried had the same consistency as sand). If you aren't a big tea person, you will be after drinking a cup of this.

Love this!

This is soooo close to Teavana’s mix. Love the spicy flavors.

Thanks Jan! We appreciate your review of our Maharaja Chai Oolong. We're thrilled to hear that it's filled your Teavana void and that you love the spicy flavors. Cheers!

The cinnamon is overbearing. Tastes like Fireball. Not bad, just not the flavorful bouquet I was expecting from the description.
