What is Yerba Mate?
Popular in parts of South America, the leaves and twigs of the yerba mate plant are dried and steeped in hot water to make an herbal tea. Yerba mate can be enjoyed as a cold or hot tea.
What are the health benefits of Yerba Mate?
Like many teas, Yerba Mate is rich in antioxidants and beneficial plant nutrients. The antioxidant power of Yerba Mate is actually considered to be greater than green tea! Although the percentages are small, the tea may contain seven out of the nine essential amino acids our body needs, along with many important vitamins and minerals.
Yerba mate also contains natural compounds with anti-inflammatory properties. For some great info, read this in-depth report on the health benefits of Yerba Mate.
Does Yerba Mate have caffeine?
Yes, if you are feeling a bit sluggish and need help with mental focus, Yerba Mate may help regenerate your energy level as it is considered to have a moderate level of caffeine, but still steeps in with less caffeine than a cup of coffee.
What blends well with Yerba Mate?
While it is delicious on its own, Samurai Chai Mate is a perfect blending companion with White Ayurvedic Chai. We recommend blending the two teas with a 1:1 ratio and brew the blend at the White Chai temperature. The result is a smooth, delicious tea with a spicy/fruity flavor.
Another yummy pairing is with Maharaja Oolong Chai. As with any tea, adjust your steep time depending on your strength preference. With this tea, we suggest steeping no longer than 5 minutes, with the just-below-boiling water. This brings out the aroma and beautiful flavor of the blend. The tea’s steam releases cinnamon and ginger, while your first sip may experience more of the spices - with a light, fruity finish of pineapple, papaya, and aniseed. A spicy and sweet blend that'll keep you coming back for more.
Steep at 212° for 5-10 minutes.
