What is Honeybush tea?
Named for the honey-like aroma of the honeybush flowers, the Honeybush plant is grown on the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Honeybush tea is an herbal tea made from the leaves of the honeybush plant. On the Western Cape of South Africa grows a close relative, Rooibos, or red bush tea.
Honeybush vs Rooibos tea: What is the difference?
As two herbal teas grown in South Africa, Honeybush and Rooibos are close relatives. Both rich in antioxidants and low in tannins meaning they can steep longer without becoming bitter. The flavor of both actually increases the longer they are steeped.
However, the big difference is in the flavor. While Rooibos is naturally sweet and a bit earthy with a nutty flavor, Honeybush is fuller-bodied and reveals wood and honey undertones making it sweeter than rooibos.
