TYPES OF BLACK TEA

Did you know that aside from water, black tea is one of the most consumed beverages in the world? Studies have shown the antioxidants and compounds provide eight black tea benefits such as help boosting heart health, prevent heart disease, reduce blood pressure, improve gut health, lower "bad" LDL cholesterol, reduce the risk of stroke, and lower blood glucose levels to help combat type 2 diabetes.

Black tea comes from the camellia sinensis plant and is grown in varying geographies and climates all over the world. The caffeine level can vary by origin and is considered high caffeine when compared to other types of tea. An average cup of Earl Grey provides 50mg of caffeine and an Assam can contain around 80mg.

However, compared to the 95mg of caffeine in an average cup of coffee (and we're not talking a grande...), you'll reconsider what is considered high caffeine content. Green and black tea leaves are both a natural source of the amino acid L-theanine which promotes relaxation without drowsiness.

Black tea is rich with antioxidants called flavonoids that protect cells against free radicals that can lead to blood clot formation, atherosclerosis, and cancer.

Black tea generally has a stronger flavor than other teas and also provides good shelf life by retaining that flavor for several years. Unlike green teas which can turn bitter if brewed at higher temperatures, black tea should be steeped in water brought up to 195-200°F.

Our leaf teas are premium, artisan blends full of freshness and flavor. Brewed cups of black ceylon tea can range in color from amber to red to dark brown with flavor that ranges from savory to sweet. It can be more astringent than green tea, but when brewed correctly your cup should be smooth and flavorful.

Enjoy the health benefits of black tea – the healthy alternative.
