TYPES OF BLACK TEA

What is black tea?

Black tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant grown in differing geographies and climates all over the world. Other teas also come from the Camellia sinensis plant, but the difference is oxidation that occurs in the processing. Loose leaf black tea becomes fully oxidized during processing which results in a dark, rich cup of tea that is high in caffeine as well as tannins.

Does black tea have caffeine?

The caffeine level of black tea varies by origin. But when compared to other types of tea, a cup of black tea is considered to have high caffeine.

An average cup of Earl Grey provides 50mg of caffeine and an Assam black tea can contain around 80mg. But think about this...compared to an average cup of coffee with 95mg of caffeine (and we're not talking about a Starbucks grande...), you may rethink what is considered high caffeine content.

Is black tea good for you?

You may already know that aside from water, black tea is one of the most consumed beverages in the world. But did you know there are real benefits of drinking black tea?

Packed with antioxidants, all types of black tea may help benefit your health by boosting heart health and preventing heart disease, reducing blood pressure, improving gut health, lowering "bad" LDL cholesterol, reducing the risk of stroke, lowering blood sugar levels to help combat type 2 diabetes.

Black tea leaves are also a natural source of L-theanine, an amino acid that helps you relax without feeling drowsy. It's also rich in antioxidants called flavonoids that protect cells against free radicals protecting you from blood clots, atherosclerosis, and cancer.

Our premium black teas are medium- to full-bodied with flavors from savory to sweet. Black tea leaves have a good shelf life, retaining their distinct flavor for several years. It can be more astringent than other teas, but when brewed correctly black tea should be smooth and flavorful. Unlike some teas which can turn bitter if brewed at higher temperatures, black tea should be steeped at 195-200°F.

Enjoy the benefits of drinking black tea – the healthy alternative.

Excellent flavor when I blended the two.

Great!

Refreshing tea

It tastes exactly like Maharaja chai from Teavana. I am glad I gave it a try.

Delicious tea! We were huge Teavana fans, so it was very sad when the stores closed. Now, we are able to buy our favorite flavors again!
