Does Green Tea Boost Your Energy?

Green tea is more than just a hydrating drink. In fact, green tea is known as one of the most popular drinks on the planet! It's no doubt from the myriad of health benefits green tea provides from improving brain function, aiding in weight loss, protection from cancer, and lowering the risk of heart disease. Reports show that drinking three to five cups of green tea per day will help you reap the optimal health benefits.

But let's be honest, on a day-to-day basis sometimes we are more concerned with just having the energy to get through the day. So it's not surprising when people want to know if green tea can boost your energy. So yes, green tea can boost your energy!

Green tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. All true teas that come from this plant contain caffeine. The level of caffeine is dependent on the processing method for each type of tea. Caffeine acts as a stimulant speeding up communication between our brain and body, making us feel more alert.

If you find yourself reaching for a cup of coffee, an energy drink, or sugary soda to get that boost of needed energy, consider replacing it with the healthier alternative – a cup of green tea. Studies report that regular consumption of green tea increases energy levels as well as endurance.

The FDA estimates that an average 8 oz cup of coffee contains 80 to 100 mg of caffeine on average compared to 30 to 50 mg of caffeine in an 8 oz cup of green tea.

What is Matcha?

Matcha is an earthy, vibrant green powder made from grinding whole green tea leaves. The best matcha comes from Japan where it is considered a staple. However, Matcha demand has also increased globally, so much so that people are looking for matcha-infused baked items at local cafes and on menus.

For a boost of energy, there is nothing better than Matcha. Because you are consuming the entire leaf in powder form, the antioxidant levels of Matcha are through the roof! Matcha provides 60x more antioxidants than spinach!

Plus this special green tea powder gives you the boost without the crash of coffee. And because all green tea contains the amino acid, L-theanine that reduces anxiety and high blood pressure, you also avoid those dreaded coffee jitters.

While we all need a little extra energy, it's always important to enjoy green tea in moderation. It is not recommended to drink green tea on an empty stomach, such as first thing in the morning. Some people with high stomach acid can experience nausea.

It is best to drink green tea two hours before or after a meal. Enjoy it before exercise for that boost of endurance, or after dinner to help with digestion. Avoid it right before bed due to the caffeine – save that energy boost for when you need it!
