Use this matcha whisk to turn your powdered matcha into a lump-free cup of matcha with the perfect amount of froth. Made of strong and sustainable bamboo for extended use.

This bamboo matcha whisk, known as a Chasen, is an essential tool to help you whip up the perfect creamy cup of matcha.

Complete the ceremonial tradition with a ceramic matcha bowl (sold separately).

  • 100 tine matcha whisk
  • Measures approximately 10.5 cm (4 -1/8") tall
  • Handle is approximately 3.2cm (1-1/4") wide

How to use Matcha Whisk

  1. Sift 1-2 tsp matcha into a cup
  2. Add 2oz hot water (water just under a boil will achieve the best results)
  3. Whisk vigorously in a zig-zag motion until the tea is frothy.
  4. Enjoy your matcha tea straight from the bowl.

How to clean Matcha Whisk

Whisking is the key to making the perfect cup of green tea matcha. But to make sure your whisk is ready to whip into action, you need to take care of it properly. Care is all part of the tradition for the true matcha lover who's interested in making a smooth, clump-free cup with a nice froth on top.

Here are four simple steps (plus a bonus tip) to care for your matcha whisk:

Step 1: Always wash

Wash your matcha whisk thoroughly and immediately after each use. Why? Made of natural bamboo, traditional bamboo whisks (also called a “chasen”) can be susceptible to mold growth if left moist for too long.

Step 2: How to clean a bamboo matcha whisk

Rinse your whisk by running hot water through all the tines (or prongs). Make sure that there isn't any matcha left on the tines. Do not use soap and definitely never put it in the dishwasher.

Step 3: Air dry

Simply let your whisk air dry. Ensure you always place your whisk with the tines pointing down so any water drops can drain out, and not be trapped at the handle.

Step 4: How to store a matcha whisk

After waiting until it is completely dried, it is safe to store. Now you'll do the opposite from the drying, and remember to keep it upright so it is not sitting on the tines.

For the best protection of your matcha whisk, store it on a matcha whisk holder (also known as a celadon) to protect the shape and integrity of the tines.

PRO TIP: Soak your bamboo whisk before use

Before making your cup of matcha, soak the whisk in warm water. This will soften the tines which will help you achieve that perfect green froth you love so much.

If you follow these simple steps, your matcha whisk can last one or two years depending on the frequency of use. If you notice the tines beginning to break or lose their shape, it's time to replace your whisk.
