Green Chai Tea? Aren't Chai teas black tea?

Yes, chai tea is typically a blend of black tea leaves and spices like cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, and cinnamon. Our Green Chai Tea is a blend of green tea, orange citrus, and chai spices. It offers the benefits of green tea and has a tangy and spicy taste of a chai.

We recommend two heaping teaspoons per 8 oz cup. Add sugar, cream, or soy if you prefer.

Or try this delicious Green Tea Chai Latte recipe if you're looking for a warm, creamy chai tea latte. Using a milk frother makes it super easy! Try it over ice for an iced latte!

How much caffeine is in chai tea?

With a moderate caffeine level, this loose leaf tea can provide a gentle pick-me-up without the jitters.

Green tea from the Camellia sinensis plant has moderate caffeine. Chai Green tea is a blend of chai spices with green tea. Chai Green has less caffeine than coffee, with 29 mg per cup compared to coffee's 96 mg per cup.

Green Chai tea contains less caffeine than pure green tea. This is because the chai spices blended in are caffeine free reducing the ratio of tea leaves.

The amount of caffeine in a cup of chai tea can also vary depending on the type of tea blended in. White tea has less caffeine than green. So White Chai tea has less caffeine than Green Chai, while traditional Indian Masala Chai with black tea has more.

For a hint of sweetness, try adding a bit of maple syrup that nicely complements the tea.

Superior Taste

This was part of a gift package which I had chosen by reviews. I've been waiting to hear and happily can add to those that said best chai ever. She loves it!

Deliciously different!

I’m really enjoying this Green Chai, it’s really not what I expected! It’s not highly caffeinated and the flavor - I was thinking green tea would be on the bitter side but nope
I like this tea in the daytime instead of another coffee because it’s half or less than caffeinated and that flavor, try it yourself!

This is my favorite tea now

This is my go-to tea. This is the tea that got me to slowly convert from black tea to green tea. I have/had a dozen other green tea options and am slowly throwing them away because it is too hard to resist having this Chai Green Tea. I do often put in a small half pack of Stevia and a Collegen Powder and the taste is perfect.

Refreshing but not overflavored

I was looking for a warm weather alternative to maharaja chia. This tea is light and refreshing but does not have the complex flavors I was hoping for. Probably user error.

Hi Dan - Yes, as far as our chai teas go, the Chai Green is one of the lighter ones, so great thinking for your warmer weather alternative! Adding more tea to your steep will intensify the flavors. Or If you are looking for more complex flavors, you may like Dancing Vanilla Bean ( or White Chai Spice ( - both best sellers!
