What is Oolong Milk Tea?
Also known as Jin Xuan tea, Oolong Milk tea is a more recently cultivated variety of oolong tea. Originating from Taiwan, Oolong Milk Tea tastes light, creamy, and buttery. Tea drinkers compare the flavor to milk, hence giving it the name of Oolong Milk Tea or Milk Oolong.
There are lower grade Oolong Milk teas, but those oolongs have a "milk flavor" added to the tea leaves through aromatization, very often done to mask low-quality leaves.
Aromatization means flavor has been sprayed on the oolong tea leaves, making it simply a flavored tea instead of an authentic milk tea.
Our authentic Milk Oolong comes from high-grade leaves that have been lightly roasted and rolled, producing a subtle creamy flavor with a slight floral aroma as a natural nuance of the tea, enhanced only by the artisan’s processing of the oolong versus adding sprayed-on flavor.
Does Milk Tea have caffeine?
Oolong Milk Tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, the same plant used to make green tea and black tea. As an Oolong tea, the caffeine level of Milk Tea falls in between green tea and black tea. Milk Tea contains about 38 mg of caffeine compared to a cup of green tea which has about 29g of caffeine and black tea with 47 mg of caffeine.
