What is Dragonwell tea?

Dragonwell tea (also known as Longjing tea) is one of the most famous Chinese green teas. During the Qing Dynasty, Long jing achieved the status of "Imperial Tea".

The art of making Dragon well tea is a time-honored tradition in China. High-quality Longjing green tea leaves are uniform in shape and appearance. It takes about 30,000 carefully hand-plucked young shoots to yield one pound of finished tea.

Over many generations, tea masters have perfected the art of pan-firing this tea to highlight its distinctive tastes. Expert tea masters shape the tea leaves in a hot wok creating distinctive flat leaves.

The process of pan-firing or pan-frying also gives the tea its inviting, toasty aroma. As the long jing tea leaves dance in the hot wok, a tantalizing aroma fills the air, reminiscent of freshly roasted nuts. Dragonwell green tea has a full, nutty, sweet, and buttery texture with a pleasantly dry finish. Quality Longjing dragon well tea makes a truly satisfying cup.

When brewed, high-quality dragon well green tea unveils its true character. The liquor is a vibrant shade of pale green color, like the first leaves of early spring. As you take your first sip, a wave of warmth washes over you, soothing your senses. The Dragonwell tea envelops your palate with its smooth, velvety texture, leaving a lingering sweetness on your tongue.

The nutty undertones of Dragonwell tea are reminiscent of roasted chestnuts, adding a comforting depth to each sip. Its buttery notes bring to mind a freshly baked pastry, evoking a sense of indulgence and satisfaction. With every sip, the tea leaves a pleasant dryness, cleansing your palate and leaving you craving for more.

The health benefits of longjing tea are the same as those you experience with any green tea.

How to Brew Dragonwell Tea

We always recommend you use loose leaf tea instead of tea bags. Typically filled with leftover dust and fannings, tea bags simply do not contain the same high-quality tea. Start with filtered water or spring water instead of tap water to achieve the best flavor.

As a green tea, brew Dragonwell tea at a lower temperature of 180 degrees. A temperature-controlled kettle makes this super easy. But if you don't have a kettle, heat water until it's simmering. Wait for 2 minutes before pouring it over the tea leaves.

Don't toss the leaves yet! Infuse the Longjing tea leaves 3 to 5 times for additional cups. You will want to increase the length of the steep by 30 seconds with each infusion to extract the most flavor.

Dragonwell tea is not just a beverage; it is an experience. One sip will transport your mind to the lush tea gardens of Hangzhou, located In the northwestern Zhejiang province. The dedication and skill of the tea masters create a symphony of flavors that dance on your taste buds.

Whether enjoyed alone in quiet contemplation or shared with loved ones, Dragonwell tea is a true delight. Its toasty aroma, full-bodied flavor, and smooth finish make it a perfect companion for any occasion. Sit back, relax, and let the enchanting flavors of Dragonwell tea whisk you away to a world of tranquility and bliss.
