A tea concentrate simply refers to an extremely strong tea intended to be diluted down before drinking it. Tea concentrates can be made from any type of tea.
The simplest method to make a tea concentrate is by following your typical tea-brewing process. Don't overcomplicate it by using a new technique. Simply increase the amount of tea you typically use by 2-3 times.
We recommend using loose leaf tea leaves to make the tea concentrate. Loose tea just steeps a full flavored concentrate. If you do use tea bags instead, be sure to double up on the quantity to extract the strong flavor.
INGREDIENTS
For the Tea Concentrate:
- 2 T green tea leaves
- 2 C boiling water
For the Sparkling Tea:
- 2 parts green tea concentrate
- 1 part fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1 part unflavored sparkling water
INSTRUCTIONS
Make the Green Tea Concentrate:
- Infuse the green tea leaves with the water heated just below boiling and let it steep for 4 minutes.
- Strain out the leaves and pour the concentrate into an airtight container.
- Chill the concentrate in the refrigerator until ready to use. You want to allow it to cool completely before mixing it with sparkling water.
Make the Sparkling Green Tea:
- Pour the cooled green tea concentrate over ice. Top it off with the orange juice and sparkling water.
- Add some fresh mint leaves or slices of orange for an extra burst of flavor.
The only hint of sweetness in this drink is from the orange juice. If you enjoy a sweeter taste, you can adjust by adding honey, agave or simple syrup to suit your preference.
Get creative and experiment with a fruity herbal tea. Or try making a black tea concentrate such as Earl Grey and swap out the orange juice for lemonade or peach juice. You can achieve some fun results.
Cheers to staying cool and hydrated with this delicious sparkling green tea!
